Hallo Herr Goxxx,

What is an oil-water heat exchanger and how does it work in a Porsche?
Plate heat exchangers, as installed in our Porsche, belong to the group of oil coolers.
They have now been used very successfully for many years in the entire range of the Porsche series, whether in Porsche sports cars or in thoroughbred racing cars with absolute top performance.
The main task of such a heat exchanger is to use a plate system made of conductive aluminum to separate the oil and water circuits from one another, but at the same time to connect them so closely that the different media can exchange heat with one another and thus regulate them very well.
Depending on the number and size of the individual plates installed in the heat exchanger system,
the heating output, but also the cooling output, is regulated when the engine is running at full load.
A plate heat exchanger is used in a Porsche engine because sufficient cooling water is available there and because oil cooling using cooling water and a heat exchanger is the most efficient variant of an oil cooler on a Porsche car.
In newer Porsche vehicles, oil-water heat exchangers are used in engines, but also in the gearboxes of the GT variants.
In top-class racing vehicles, the heat exchangers are about twice as large as in production vehicles. This is because the temperature differences between oil and water are much greater during operation and have to be regulated by the heat exchanger.
During cold running, the cooling water is heated up faster than the engine oil.
The heat exchanger ensures that the cooling water, which warms up more quickly, heats up the oil much faster than without a heat exchanger.
At full throttle, in a racing car for example, the engine oil usually gets much hotter than the cooling water. Here the heat exchanger again ensures a very good heat balance between the two media and a very good cooling of the engine oil.
Even with short-term peak performance, the engine oil heats up, especially in the areas in the engine where there is a lot of friction, such as the bearings and at the pistons and cylinders. Here the heat exchanger ensures very good cooling.
An oil temperature indicator is not used in newer Porsche vehicles, because the temperature difference
between the cooling water and the engine oil is only slightly different during normal operation of the vehicle.
I'm happy to answer any questions

Dear all,
we've been on the market since 1974 and consistently rebuild Porsche engines and transmissions.
From time to time it happens that our customers have commissioned their work elsewhere.
Often, even very often, we see exactly these customers again almost six months later
with us, in order to then have the "presumably too expensive repair" carried out by us.
In the following case it was the same - but why do you think?
See what we have received for repair:
As always, we gave this customer a rough budget for repairing his Porsche 997 engine damage.
It was also the well-known piston and cylinder damage on a Porsche 911, type 997 Carrera, generation 1 with 320 hp.
We had this #damage repair on the part of the costs
at KV delivery, specified with roughly 15 thousand euros.
That was far too expensive for our customer, as he told us.
He then gave his acquaintance, a "freelance workshop man from Cologne", the engine repair order.
The first call from the customer came after 3 months: "Mr. Albert, how long does an engine repair like this actually take for you"?
My answer: "On average and depending on our workload and the material supply, between 2 and a maximum of 6 weeks"!
"OK, I'll get back to you then," he said.
"Okay, if you have any questions, you're welcome," was my reply.
3 months later: "Mr. Albert, what would it cost me if you repaired my #Porsche #engine after all? But we have already taken the engine apart and my workshop man apparently cannot find the damage, and he also gets the block not apart he probably lacks the special tool and he has obviously overestimated himself completely and he probably doesn't have any more time at the moment and whatever" .......
I: "Ok, then bring the car over to us, we'll take a close look at everything again and then give you a new cost estimate, under the new ( "presumably more favorable") conditions" .... Because, yes, it was me known, the engine has already been removed and disassembled, and so at least these costs are unnecessary ... that's what I thought to myself.
I'll make it short:
The customer drives to Cologne, pays 2,500 euros for disassembly and finds his defective engine as "bulk goods". Everything, really every little part, was thrown into a big heap and simply "shoveled" into the customer's Ford Transit when he picked it up.
At this point I will save myself an evaluation of the workshop man,
because our customer has already done that extensively in advance.
The fact is: As a result, our customer had to shoulder a significantly higher block of costs than we had advised him in advance. Much of the material removed was deformed and damaged during removal, making it unusable.
Apart from the many missing parts, we also had an enormous effort to first clean and sift everything in order to then laboriously find out what exactly is missing and what we had to replace and get in detail.
In the end we put everything back together properly and handed it over to the customer
delivered his car again after a #repair period of around 4 weeks.
AN IMPORTANT QUESTION IS:
How and according to which repair method should your engine be repaired there?
Ask for it explicitly, because that will decide how long the future engine life will be.
HERE you will find some lines how we #solid and #durable
Carry out #repairs on #Porsche #Wasserboxer #motors!
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
Many greetings
Jürgen Albert

Liebe Alle,

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S rounds out the boxer engine family. The newcomer, equipped with two VTG turbochargers, joins a long and illustrious pantheon of predecessors. It embodies the passion and emotion, acumen and expertise of over seventy years of sports car design.
911 Turbo S: Fuel consumption combined 11.1 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions 254 g/km
The genetic codes of all of Porsche’s current boxer engines are 9A2 and 9A2 evo for four- and six-cylinder engines. They represent a flexible system of identical, technically similar, and individual components that together form a proven foundation, yet also create the space for a plethora of different character traits. A glance at the range of options amply demonstrates the point: four or six cylinders, naturally aspirated engine or turbo, between two and four liters of displacement, from 250 to 640 hp (911 Turbo S: Fuel consumption combined 11.1 l/100 km; CO2 emissions 254 g/km) of power, and torques between 310 and 800 Nm.
One thing that all members of the boxer family have in common is their cylinder spacing: invariably 118 millimeters. Within the cylinders, pistons with diameters of 91 and 102 millimeters do their duty. More precisely: either 76.4 millimeters up and down or 81.5, depending on the crankshaft. Together with the number of cylinders, this results in five different displacements and nine power levels in the 718 and 911 model lines. With a pool of identical parts that are used without modification in all model lines, as well as components with similar design principles, the result is a wealth of synergies in the fundamental engine design toolbox. This enables developers to concentrate on the individual character of the engine’s periphery—for instance, the intake duct and exhaust system. The result is typical Porsche: because all boxer engines bear the same genes and despite their different characters, they’re all equally efficient, emotional, and driven to perform.
The new turbo engine delivers astonishing power. The key: enhanced turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) and wastegates as well as the redesigned, more efficient conveyance of process and charge air.
The optimization of internal friction in the engine and a redeveloped combustion process with centrally positioned piezo injectors enable both greater power and improved efficiency.
Whether four cylinders or six, a naturally aspirated engine or turbo: what all Porsche boxer engines have in common is the characteristic sound, the high revving capacity, exceptional responsiveness, and a low center of gravity for maximum driving pleasure.

911 Turbo S: Kraftstoffverbrauch kombiniert 11,1 l/100 km; CO₂-Emission 254 g/km
