    Porsche racing engines, particularly high-revving ones, experience extreme stress. Beyond normal wear on parts like timing chains, pistons, and valves, the plain bearings are a unique point of concern.



    For example, our AMS team recently removed connecting rod bearings from a Porsche 997 R racing engine, which revs above 8,500 rpm, during an inspection. These bearings showed significant wear, with the fine bearing layer eroded by hot synthetic oil during racing.


    This damage was identified during a routine 30-hour inspection, conducted annually or based on mileage. Without this overhaul, major engine damage could have occurred after just one or two more races.


    This engine once belonged to Nürburgring legend Sabine Schmitz and is now raced by our team and our friend Michael W.

    Key reasons for regular overhauls (every 30–100 hours) include:

    • High stress: Racing engines operate at extreme speeds and temperatures, accelerating wear.
    • Lightweight components: Designed for performance, these parts have a shorter lifespan.
    • Performance focus: Racing engines prioritize efficiency and power over durability, requiring strict maintenance.
    • Safety: Preventing engine failure reduces risks during races.
